About Us

The Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society (CASFS) is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 organization that sponsors the FANtasm (CopperCon) SciFi/Fantasy convention. Our purpose is to promote interest in science fiction, fantasy, media and science. As part of that effort we occasionally have special events at our monthly meetings.

CASFS was incorporated in 1979 by a group of Arizona and California fans after their attendance at the 1978 Worldcon, also known as Iggycon.

In addition to the annual CopperCon convention, past events we have sponsored include HexaCon (a gaming convention), SmerfCon (a conrunners event), PhringeCon (an SF media convention), and the 1982 and 1992 Westercons (regional sci-fi/fantasy conventions).

Our group meetings are held on the last Friday of the month, except for October, November and December when we switch to the second Friday of the month. Our current meeting location is Denny's Restaurant in the Metrocenter area. Our meetings begin at 8:00PM, but many of us meet earlier to socialize over dinner.
