A Few Hints:
Number of Models
Please limit your selection of between 3 and 6 of your best and most individual models. This assists the judges in focusing their attention on the best you have to offer, instead of having them sift through 20 figures to find that one spot you missed.
Bases
Models must be mounted on an appropriate sized gaming base. The Judges reserve the right to move models that are not on appropriate bases into a category they deem more fitting.
Display Bases
Many people like to mount their models on large scenic display bases or plinths. This is permitted provided that the individual model can be removed and stand upon an appropriate sized gaming base. If the display base is integral to your model, it will only be eligible for the Open category (provided it meets all requirements of said category). Although a display base can add to the presentation of a unit, our judges do not take such bases into consideration when making their decisions. In fact, models on display bases are usually removed from the base when being judged.
Categories
Category 1 - Modern Single Miniature
Any human-sized Modern miniature mounted on an appropriately sized gaming base. As a rule, if the model is supplied with a base 40-mm or smaller, it can be entered into this category.
Category 2 - Modern Squad
This category is for Modern squads of three (3) or more models. When entering a squad you will be asked to limit your selection to 6 or less so choose wisely.
Category 3 - Modern Large Model or Vehicle
This category is for any single, large Modern model on an appropriately sized gaming base.
This category also covers all single vehicles or vehicle squadrons of 3 or more models. Please bear in mind that a multiple vehicle entry should be for smaller vehicles such as bikes.
While a battalion of tanks is impressive, the detail of a single tank will win more points with the judges than the fact that you own no less than 15 ÜBER-Destructors! Again choose wisely in the number of figures you enter. (Between 3-6 please)
Although most vehicles tend to not have bases, it is acceptable to mount the vehicle on a base appropriate to the model (no more than 20 mm larger than the vehicle itself).
Category 4 - Fantasy Single Miniature
Any human-sized fantasy miniature mounted on an appropriately sized gaming base. Again, if the model is supplied with a base 40-mm or smaller, it can be entered into this category.
Category 5 - Fantasy Squad
This category is for Fantasy squads of three (3) or more models.
Category 6 - Fantasy Large Model or Vehicle
This category is for any single, large modern model on an appropriately sized gaming base.
This category also covers all single vehicles or vehicle squadrons of 3 or more models. Please bear in mind that a multiple vehicle entry should be for smaller vehicles such as chariots.
YES! Herd of Olyphaunts is impressive, we have acknowledged this and we re moving on. You will be better served to enter 1 finely detailed model for the judges to critique than to display many models of lesser quality! Again choose wisely in the number of figures you enter. (Between 3-6 please for squads and 1 for single entry)(P.S. If my humor seems dry remember we are in Arizona!)
Although most vehicles tend to not have bases, it is acceptable to mount the vehicle on a base appropriate to the model (no more than 20 mm larger than the vehicle itself).
Category 8 - Youth Competition
This category is reserved for painters 14 years and younger in age. The entry can be any single miniature. The model may be mounted on a steed or bike and may include base decorations (including casualties).
THIS CATEGORY IS EXEMPT FROM OVERALL WINNER CONSIDERATION.
Category 9 - The Open Competition
The Open Competition is your chance to let your imagination run wild! Anything goes! You can enter anything from a single model to a sweeping diorama. Remember, no matter how wild your entry, the judges will be looking for well-painted miniatures with character. Conversions are allowed but should adhere to the atmosphere of the game and spirit of the miniature.
The only restriction for this category is that the overall base size of your entry must not be larger than 18" x18" x18" .
THIS CATEGORY IS EXEMPT FROM OVERALL WINNER CONSIDERATION.
Category 10 - Speed Painting (timed not drugged)
Throughout the tournament speed painting competitions will be held in our painting area, see the schedule for times. Anyone participating in speed painting events will then have an opportunity to enter their creation for judging in the Speed Painting Competition.
Category 11 - Youth Speed Painting
Throughout the convention speed painting competitions will be held in our painting area, see the schedule for times. Anyone participating in speed painting events will then have an opportunity to enter their creation for judging in the Speed Painting Competition.
Category 12 - Sculpting / Conversion Contest
Fancy yourself a master sculptor? Whether you're ready to go pro or not, consider entering the Sculpting/Conversion Contest. Your entry should be unpainted so the judges can see what a masterful conversion you have accomplished, and there are some great prizes for the winners! Well pinned and jointed conversions are good, a seamless connection created through the use of green stuff is better.
