COPPERCON FEATURES COOL FUN FOR EVERYONE

Phoenix's premiere SCIENCE FICTION convention, COPPERCON (SEPTEMBER 3-6, 2010) is featuring a wide variety of fun things to see and do.

COPPERCON’s 30th anniversary event headlines WORLD FANTASY AWARD winning author STEPHEN R. DONALDSON (Chronicles of Thomas Covenant). Other guests include BRAM STOKER AWARD winning authors WESTON OCHSE (Scarecrow Gods) and YVONNE NAVARRO (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and author/astronomer DAVID LEE SUMMERS in addition to over 50 other authors, media experts, artists, musicians, scientists, and costumers. CopperCon's programming will engage everyone interested in seeing and talking with the pros of SCIENCE FICTION, FANTASY, HORROR, and HARD SCIENCE.

Our great variety of activities are focused on providing an EXPANDED THREE FULL DAYS of enjoyment. Just a few examples include:

ROBOTS, ROBOTS, ROBOTS – The R2-D2 Builders Club will have your favorite droid and his buddies at CopperCon!  Talk to the people that built them.  Learn how you too, could become an Astromech builder! Also, the award-winning Robot club from Cortez High will be on hand with some of their robots to demonstrate how they work and talk about how they are made.

WATER GUN FIGHT – Bring your water pistol,  and take out your aggressions on your (similarly equipped) friends! Don’t forget your bathing suit!

MOVIE PREVIEW EVENT – Hosted by Movie Man, the movie preview event is known far and wide for its fantastic giveaways of movie-related posters, T-shirts, Hats and other items.

ROCKETS – Bring your favorite flying model rockets! We’ve got a huge back lot to launch them in. Or just watch. Will you bring the “best” rocket?

MASQUERADE - Calling all Costumers and Costume aficionados! Show off your hard work!  Didn’t make it yourself? That’s O.K.  Beautiful costumes to be seen and wonderful prizes to be won Saturday evening!

UFP 35^th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION – The United Federation of Phoenix is a social group that embraces all aspects of Science Fiction. The UFP will be sponsoring a Trek exhibit in the Dealer’s room, and a party Saturday night. See what they do, and meet current and past members from the last 35 years.

FIGHTER DEMOS – Several groups will demonstrate both Medieval and Japanese-style fighting.  This exciting combat will take place both Saturday and Sunday.

DRUM & DANCE - Hear the call of the beat, feel the allure of the dance! Give in to your desires and attend the Middle Eastern Drum and Dance Sunday evening!  Don’t know how to drum? We’ll teach you.  Don’t know how to dance? We’ll show you.  Just feel like watching? That’s O.K. too!

Other activities include guest panels, presentations and workshops; charity benefit auction; costuming demonstrations; LARP, console, and tabletop gaming; guest readings and concerts; Robotics and Art exhibitions; modern dancing; and, of course, the WORLD CLASS DEALER’S ROOM and FULL HOSPITALITY SUITE. 

MEMBERSHIP rates: $40 until August 15, 2010, $45 at the door;  Special rates for kids. Memberships may be purchased by mail or on the website (below) via PayPal.

Phoenix's premiere SCIENCE FICTION convention, COPPERCON (SEPTEMBER 3-6, 2010) is doing a special Friday Night program for pre-registered members ONLY. This action-packed evening will include our MOVIE PREVIEW EVENT that is known for its FANTASTIC GIVEAWAYS of movie-related POSTERS, T-SHIRTS, CAPS, and other items. Also included will be the BODY PAINTING demonstration with Mark Greenawalt, the MEET THE PROS EVENT, the Variant Universe MODERN DANCE and discussion panels featuring favorite topics such as ROBOTS, STARGATE, GHOST HUNTING, and BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.
