A conversation with some of the best minds in the business about what science fiction is, where it's going, and what it's done to our world. The movie is an attempt to examine the fascination we all have with the future by looking at those who speculate about the future regularly, that is to say: the science fiction community. The movie examines the interconnectedness of human imagination and its effects on the real world. The subjects include the history of science fiction, science fiction fandom and fans' alienation from the rest of society, the escape of these fans into fantasy and science fiction, the influence of science fiction on the world, and finally, speculation about the future by these fans and authors. Heinlein thought a man should be able to do everything; anything less was not survival of the fittest. Fans tend to be pretty self-reliant and inventive. Does specialization lead to business success? Or does it just restrict our options? Sun 130p-230p, Suite A. Anna Paradox (moderator), Janeen O'Kerry, Ken St. Andre FAN - TRADITION: KEEP IT OR LOSE IT? What do we always do at a con just because we've always done it? Do our traditional events have any appeal for the younger generation? Should we reevaluate what we're presenting if we want to attract a younger fan? But then what do we do for fun at the con? Sat 10a-11a, Suite B. Lee Hogan (moderator), Ernest Hogan, Ken St. Andre |
