SAT 10-11p in Suite C. Sarah Clemens-mod, Matt Dockrey, J. Alan Erwine, Rick Cook
ERC 102 - ROMANCE VS. EROTICA. The burgeoning crossover ‘tween romance and fantasy has spawned lots of fantasy erotica. Does the stuff appeal to fans or is it really still in the romance arena? And when did they quit using euphemisms for a penis? Is it necessary to have such graphic language today? Maybe we’ve just been so inundated with sex that gentle imagery no longer has any appeal…

ERC 103 - THE IDEAL MASTER/SLAVE RELATIONSHIP. This is not for the faint-hearted. Think Gor (books by John Norman). Does our shrinking world still have opportunities for this alternative life-style? FAN 103 - SCIFI SUPERIORITY COMPLEX -- Elitism in SF/F. When Tee Morris’ article appeared on StrangeHorizons.com, people started talking...and talking, and talking, and talking. In our sub-culture of Fandom, why do some of us look down our collective noses at fans who love the media over the printed word? Don’t we pride ourselves on our tolerance? If we want to keep fandom alive with fresh young faces, why do we denigrate the medium that brings them to us? Is there an "elite class" in Science Fiction and Fantasy, and why? Who is this "Speculative Fiction Snobbery" between? Science Fiction and Fantasy? Big press versus small press? Media versus Literary? Gamers versus...other gamers? LITERATURE/WRITING – LIT
LIT 101 - THIS IS GREG KEYES. An opportunity to meet NY Times Best-Selling Author Greg Keyes and get to know him. Greg has written in the Star Wars and Babylon 5 universes as well as his own fantasy and alternate history series.
SAT 430-530p in Suite C. Greg Keyes
LIT 102 - THIS IS ROBERT SAWYER. An opportunity to meet the acclaimed “Dean of Canadian Science Fiction.” Rob has taken home a Hugo, a Nebula and countless other international awards. His award-winning website was the first science fiction author website.
SAT 330-430p in Suite C. Robert Sawyer
LIT 103 – BUILD THE WORLD, BUT FOR *$@#*&^ ‘SAKE, TELL THE STORY! World building with our GoH, Greg Keyes. What goes into world building: names, languages and cultures. What does it take to make them all work... and make sense?
FRI 4-5p in Suite E. Greg Keyes
LIT 106 - DO SF/F AND SEX MIX WELL IN LITERATURE? Curious minds want to know… Early SF was written for adolescent boys and was mostly sexless, with certain notable exceptions such as P.J. Farmer. Now the crossover between romance and fantasy has spawned a new genre, Fantasy Erotica, – good or bad?
SAT 5-6p in Suite E. Ray Poulsen-mod, Cynthia Bullock, Mike D’Ambrosio, Michael Stackpole, Michelle Welch, J. Alan Erwine
LIT 108 - WORST BOOK YOU EVER READ BY ONE OF THE MASTERS. Even Heinlein wrote a stinker once according to some. How about Asimov? Norton, Bradley, Brown, Leiber? Let’s talk about the really bad book that no one wants to talk about. Let’s be upfront about it – those folks were only human, weren’t they?
SAT 1130a-1230p in Suite E. Elizabeth Burnham, J. Alan Erwine, Ken St. Andre, Mike D’Ambrosio, Ernest Hogan, Marty Massoglia
LIT 109 - POETRY IN SF/F OR HORROR? Is it marketable? Do the fans even want it? Where can you find it? How does Filk fit in?
SUN 230-330p in Ventanas Room. Carolyn Clink, Mark Horning, Kevin Yancy
LIT 111 - GUILTY PLEASURES. These are the books you would never have prominently displayed in your library. These are the television shows you secretly videotape or TiVo and set aside private time to watch. These are the movies that you dish and criticize harshly, but will not hesitate to purchase if you come across the VHS or DVD. Guilty Pleasures are those offerings of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror that we wish we could avoid or resist, but like moths to a flame we cannot help but get sucked in for the ride. Spill your guts, confess your sins, and debate over your favorite vices.
FRI 4-5p in Suite C. Sue Martin-mod, Alice Massoglia, Chris Dickensen, Pat Connors, ElizaBeth Gilligan
LIT 112 - FROM SHOOTING FOR THE STARS TO SHOOTING YOURSELF IN THE FOOT -- THE BUSINESS SIDE OF BOOKS. Sure, getting into cons for free is cool, and receiving the accolades of fans (and creating your own fan base) is good fun...but don't kid yourself -- this is a business. How serious is the business of aliens and elves, and how seriously should you take it? Is it possible to take yourself too seriously? How do you prevent yourself from being puffed up with vanity when your work reaches print? How do you behave at a con? Hear from the pros some of the common sense tactics needed and some sage advice on representing yourself in the continuously changing world of books.
SAT 10-1130a in Ventanas Room. Robert Sawyer-mod, Michael Stackpole, Yvonne Navarro, Bill Nicholls, Doranna Durgin
LIT 113 - CHICKS IN CHAIN MAIL. So exactly how realistic is it to have women on the battlefield? And what exactly is up with those metal bikinis? Are they practical, or are Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell simply working through issues. This panel takes a closer look at the appeal of warrior women, the "death" of the damsel in distress, and why "tough women" sell!
SAT 6-7p in Suite E. Jennifer Roberson-mod, Elizabeth Burnham, Emily Hogan, Tee Morris, Mike D’Ambrosio, Doranna Durgin
LIT 115 - ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO GO THERE? Rape. Torture. Childhood trauma. Sex with Dwarves. Sometimes it's done for a laugh. Sometimes it is done for an emotional response. Sometimes, we ask ourselves "What was THAT all about?!" So why not ask the pros who do it? A panel that goes into the darker side of writing, where the envelope is not only pushed but fed to the shredder. When is "shock" essential to the story, and when is it sensational? Find out if authors add in moments of terror and extreme situations in order to surprise an audience, or as an alternative to group therapy.
FRI 5-6p in Suite C. Mike D’Ambrosio-mod, J. Alan Erwine, Emily Hogan, Tee Morris, Michelle Welch
LIT 117 - YOU GOT MY FANTASY IN YOUR HISTORY! YOU GOT YOUR HISTORY IN MY FANTASY! Science Fiction never blinks at incorporating events and icons of history...but we rarely see crossovers with fantasy and history and not have it called "Alternative History." So why can't we have elves fighting alongside William Wallace? Why can't we have sorcerers on the White House cabinet? J.K. Rowling invented the "Ministry of Magic" so does this mean that at one time Cornelius Fudge reported to Tony Blair? (If so, why didn't the Ministry of Magic do anything to help out with the Foot-and-Mouth and Mad Cow epidemics?) Why are Fantasy authors hesitant to combine their history with their fantasy? Where is the line between "Historical Fantasy" and "Alternative History"? Authors discuss the challenges, the pitfalls, and the fun in enjoying these two tastes that taste great together.
SAT 130-230p in Suite B. Ray Poulsen-mod , Emily Hogan, Jennifer Roberson, Michelle Welch
MEDIA - MED
MED 101 - BATMAN – which one did you like best? Who was truer to the Dark Knight image? Why are the fans willing to accept a multiple choice Batman rather than insisting on a storyline continuity? How about a composite? Which elements/actors would make the ideal movie?
SAT 330-430p in Suite D. R-Laurraine Tutihasi-mod, Pat Connors, Jerome Lamberth, Alice Massoglia, Ken St. Andre, Michael Stackpole
MED 102 - SHOULD CRITICS BE ALLOWED TO LIVE? Do they really help guide our choices? What are your criteria for reviewing a movie? Is it different for TV or literature?
FRI 6-7p in Suite A. Mike D’Ambrosio-mod, Jack Mangan, Chris Swanson, R-Laurraine Tutihasi
MED 104 - RESURRECTION. Are the new and improved TV shows, movies or mini-series better than the originals? We can discuss Lost in Space, Dune, Battlestar Galactica – what did I miss? What did you love or hate about the remakes?
FRI 6-7p in Suite C. Evo Terra-mod, Pat Connors, Chris Dickensen, Dave Williams
MED 105 - VAMPIRES…WHAT’S THEIR FUTURE? How have they changed in the media over the years? What’s after Buffy and Angel? Where do you get your fix? What would satisfy us now?
FRI 3-4p in Suite C. Jacqueline Lichtenberg-mod, Alice Massoglia, Chris Dickensen, Edouard Mesert, Yvonne Navarro, Emily Hogan
MED 108 - STAR WARS: EPISODE III -- REVENGE OF THE SITH: "Why It Worked!" versus "What Went Wrong?" Daring this panel topic in the backyard of the Dune Sea Garrison, panelists will discuss (hopefully in a pleasant, cordial fashion…) the good, the bad, and the ugly of George Lucas' supposed "final chapter" in the STAR WARS saga. Was it truly the "great masterpiece" and "the best of the films" that critics were calling it or did George just try with all his might to pull his own creation out of the darkness, only to give the world a swan song that was slightly off-key. (Security for this panel will be provided by DSG Trooper TD-0013...although he cannot guarantee the safety of those panelists taking opposition to the latest work from Lucasfilm.)
SUN 1-230p in Ventanas Room. Tee Morris-mod, Kevin O’Connor, Greg Keyes, Webb Pickersgill, Michael Stackpole, Jacqueline Lichtenberg
MED 109 – THIS AIN’T YOUR DADDY’S BATTLESTAR: A Look at the New Battlestar Galactica
When Battlestar Galactica: The Mini-Series came out, reviews from the fans were mixed. Starbuck and Boomer are chicks? The Adamas are dysfunctional? Cylons are now pretty people hiding among us? WHAT?!? Then came the series, and now the SciFi Channel seems to be making up for the FARSCAPE cancellation. The panelists take a look at Galactica (then and now), share what didn’t work in the mini-series, and why this new, re-imagined space opera (athough now much closer to Military SF) is working out so well for SciFi and creator Ronald D. Moore.
SUN 3-4p in Suite D. R-Laurraine Tutihas-mod, Dave Williams, Pat Connors, Michael Mennenga
MED 110 - THE FUTURE OF STAR TREK. With the cancellation of "Star Trek:
Enterprise" this year and the box office failure of "Star Trek (X): Nemesis", the future of
Star Trek is in its greatest period of uncertainty since 1969. We've had 18 consecutive
years of new Trek television (25 full seasons of programs) and 10 movies, much more
than we TOS fans could have ever hoped for when we lobbied for the return of Trek in
the 1970s. But where do we go from here? TrekUnited's efforts to save "ST:Enterprise"
were not successful, but might other efforts be more productive? What should we
do? What role do fan films like "New Voyages", "Starship Exeter", and "Hidden
Frontier" play? Our panel of experts discuss the future.
SUN noon-1p in Suite D. David Williams-MOD, Larry Nemecek, Lee Whiteside,
Jacqueline Lichtenberg, Bill Nicholls, Michael Mennenga
MED 111 - SERENITY: THE RETURN OF JOSS WHEDON’S FIREFLY. Joss
Whedon's 2002 space-western series was prematurely cancelled by FOX TV, but it
developed a large fan following through DVD sales last year. Now, as a feature film
based on the series, "Serenity", prepares to hit the box office this month, our panel of
experts discuss what has occurred and what is to come in the adventures of Malcolm
Reynolds & his crew. Looks like no power in the 'verse can stop it—isn't that shiny?
FRI 3-4p in Suite D. Janet Nemecek-MOD, Larry Nemecek, Lee Whiteside, Lisa Shock,
Jennifer Roberson, Summer Brooks
MED 114 - TUBE TALK WITH LEE WHITESIDE. There's lots of new genre shows on the networks this fall, including three alien invasion shows. Lee Whiteside takes a look at the new shows, updates you on returning shows and peeks down the road to see what else is in store for the future.
SAT 10-11a in Suite A. Lee Whiteside
MED 115 - DOCTOR WHO – HE’S BACK AND IT’S ABOUT TIME! The BBC has brought back Doctor Who after a 16 year hiatus. We look at the new series and how it has been received around the world and what's in store for the future.
SAT 11a-noon in Suite A. John Wheeler-MOD, Lee Whiteside
MED 116 - STAR TREK: BEHIND THE SCENES WITH LARRY AND JANET NEMECEK.
The Star Trek television shows are fun to watch, but a lot of work by many people
(writers, artists, producers, construction workers, costumers, musicians) as well as actors
is required to make the shows. Join Larry Nemecek for his behind-the-scenes tour of the
Star Trek universe.
SAT noon-130p in Suite A. Larry Nemecek – MOD, Janet Nemecek
MED 117 - GET YOUR STORY ON TV? What does it take to turn a story idea into a
finished television episode? And what are the basics of a TV or feature-film script? Join
Janet Nemecek as she describes how to turn your favorite story pitch into real television
(she did this for the seventh season episode "Prophecy" of Star Trek: Voyager!)
SAT 130-3p in Suite A. Janet Nemecek-MOD, Larry Nemecek
MED 120 – WORLD FILM PREMIERE OF “SECOND CHANCES”. CopperCon is honored to host the World Premiere Director’s cut of “Second Chances.” The entire 5-person crew of this film will be on hand to introduce the film and discuss the challenges and rewards of making a film with a miniscule budget and a two-week deadline. The film was produced and directed by our GoH Mark Greenawalt with Webb Pickersgill of Bassline Digital, and stars Kevin O'Connor of the Arizona 501st Stormtroopers, Shane Stevens of the Villikon Chronicles and model/actress Kayla Rei.
SAT 10-1130a in Suite D. Mark Greenawalt, Kevin O’Connor, Webb Pickersgill, Kayla Rei, Shane Stevens

Charlie is a rogue detective propelled through alternate universes in search of some bad guys. He travels through three alternate universes: one is ours, one is what we might become and one is what we could be without environmental abuse.
SONICMOVIES – A special treat provided by Kevin Yancy. Sonicmovies are aural dramatizations of stories. These will be provided in the Reading Room, #2002, periodically during the weekend. PAR 106 - TAROT READING. Rachel will be in the lobby during the weekend and will read your Tarot.

PAR 107 - PHOENIX LIGHTS. Dr. Lynne, a well-respected Phoenix physician, played a key role in the media coverage that surrounded the spectacle by capturing the lights in startlingly clear video and 35mm images from her mountainside home - before and during the event. After the incident, Dr. Lynne preferred to stay in the background, anonymously feeding information and photo clips to the many news organizations who wanted in on the story. In the years since the sightings, not only has she continued to photograph these still unexplained objects, Dr. Lynne has become an ardent, tireless researcher into the truth of the Phoenix Lights and Unexplained Phenomena. She has indeed discovered that WE ARE NOT ALONE and shares groundbreaking photographic evidence and personal antidotes relating to the Phoenix Lights event and more in her informative and inspiring presentation, including a composite video of how the story unfolded through the local and national media.
SUN 1-3p in Suite D. Dr. Lynne Kitei
PAR 108 - IS THE FUTURE IN YOUR HANDS? I have a very scientific approach to palmistry. Palmistry is very much like a science, which is one reason I was so drawn to it. Over the years popular media and con artist have cast a very negative view on palmistry. Despite what you might have heard, all palmists are not gypsies, we aren’t all con artists who want to steal your money and because palmistry is so scientific in its approach you do not have to be psychic to do it. I will be discussing the hows and whys of palmistry. SOC 106 - TOO MUCH TECH--CAN SOCIETY HANDLE SCIENCE? Since August 2004, Great Britain has been moving forward in stem-cell research...but can we as a society handle this?
