CopperCon 22 - Arizona's Annual Author-Oriented Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention!

CopperCon 22 features Author Guest of Honor Barbara Hambly, Special Effects Guest of Honor Mojo, Artist Guest of Honor Lubov, and Music Guest Jordin Kare.

CopperCon 22 will also have an Art Show & Auction, Gaming, Computer LAN Gaming, Charity Auction benefitting The Ronald McDonald House, Masquerade, a Dealer's Room, Con Suite, Video, Anime and more.

Special Events include Name That Byte, SciFi Jeopardy and more. We are working on a couple of surprises as well. Please check out the rest of the web site for more details on what will be happening at the convention this year.

 

  Barbara Hambly is the Author Guest of Honor

Dragonstar Barbara Hambly is a renowned author of Fantasy, Science Fiction, Historical Mysteries and more. Since her first novel for Del Rey in 1982, Time of the Dark, she has had published over three dozen books spanning many genres. Her fantasy novels have dealt with dragons, wizards, vampires, witches and her Star Trek, Star Wars and Beauty of the Beast books have been popular with fans. She also has a very successful historical mystery series about Benjamin January, a free man of color in 1830 New Orleans. Her most recent works include Magic Time, a collaboration with Marc Scott Zicree, Dragonstar, Wet Grave (the latest Benjamin January novel) and Sisters of the Raven (a new fantasy novel due for release in August). She is currently working on a historical novel about Mary Todd Lincoln, The Emanicipator's Wife.

 

  Mojo is the Special Effects Guest of Honor

Mojo's Starship Spotter Mojo is one of the pioneers of CGI special effects for television. He worked with Ron Thornton and his fledgling Foundation Imaging to create the pioneering visual effects for Babylon 5, for which they were awarded a visual effects emmy. He continued to create groundbreaking and breathtaking images for Babylon 5 and then for Star Trek: Voyager. He also worked on the Special Edition DVD for Star Trek: The Motion Picture and was a producer on the recently released Buckaroo Banzai DVD. He started the popular Star Trek: Ships of the Line calendars and has published Starship Spotter, a guide to ships in the Star Trek universe, and is hard at work on the upcoming Star Trek: The Unseen Frontier art book. He enjoys going to conventions and talking about his work and showing the fans how things are done.

 

  Lubov is the Artist Guest of Honor

Lubov's Summer Dream Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, she took her first steps in art while studying techniques of Russian and European painters in the Nevsky School of Art. In 1980 she emigrated to the U.S.A. where she continued her education, accepted at The School of Art Institute of Chicago with a full four-year scholarship. Since she became involved with science fiction, fantasy and horror fandom, she has won widespread acclaim for her richly colorful pieces. She has won Art Show awards at the 1992, 93, 95 and 96 World Science Fiction Conventions and won the Best Professional Artist Award at the 1997 World Horror Convention. She was Artist Guest of Honor at LepreCon 26 and has since moved to the Phoenix area. Some of her artwork can be seen online at http://www.hollywoodcomics.com/lubov.html

 

  Jordin Kare is the Music Guest

Jordin T. Kare was born in Ithaca N.Y. in 1956. He was a Graduate of Cornell (Nursery School). He Filked as early as elementary school. In 1975 at his first Con, the Boskone Science Convention, Jordin discovered that others also Filked.

In 1978 he moved to California and quickly established himself in local Fandom. He published "The Westerfilk Collection" in 1981 and founded Off Centaur Publications in 1982. He got his Ph.D. in Astrophysics in 1984. In 1991 he married Mary Kay, the same day as the great Oakland Fire (not his fault or so he claims). He and Mary Kay have no children, but two cats honor them with their presence.

 

  Venue: New Convention Location for CopperCon 22
The Embassy Suites North, Phoenix Arizona
CopperCon 22 will be held at a new location this year, at the luxurious Embassy Suites Phoenix North in Phoenix, Arizona.  The new hotel features suites for all of its accomodations, with either a single king sized bed or two doubles, plus a double sleeper sofa.  Other benefits for convention attendees that stay at the hotel include complimentary made-to-order breakfasts, a nightly happy hour with free drinks, a large heated pool, microwaves and coffee makers in every room, and a separate childrens' pool.  Additionally, their convention space is larger, with two floors of indoor space and a large pavilion area.  All in all, the move to this new hotel looks to be a very good choice.

Room rates are to be $79 Single/Double, $10 extra per additional adult.  Local taxes apply.
