The Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society (CASFS) is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 organization that sponsors the CopperCon/CokoCon SciFi/Fantasy conventions. Our purpose is to promote interest in science fiction, fantasy, media and science. As part of that effort we occasionally have special events at our monthly meetings.
CASFS was incorporated in 1979 by a group of Arizona and California fans after their attendance at the 1978 Worldcon, also known as Iggycon.
CASFS also sponsors a Book Social Usually held the Third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM at Denny's at 9030 N. Black Canyon Highway, Phoenix This is a spirited discussion about current books and past favorites, plus other things that happen to cross our minds such as movies and TV shows. We are currently using ZOOM for these meetings until such time as it is no longer needed.
In addition to the annual CopperCon convention, past events that we have sponsored include HexaCon (a gaming convention), SmerfCon (a conrunners event), PhringeCon (an SF media convention), and the 1982 and 1992 Westercons (regional sci-fi/fantasy conventions).
CASFS, in conjunction with WSFA has held two CokoCon conventions in 2018 and 2019. Unfortunately the 2020 event had to be cancelled due to Covid 19 concerns.

Our meetings are held on the last Friday of the month, except for October, November and December when we switch to the second or third Friday of the month.
Our current meeting location is Denny's Restaurant in the Metrocenter area. Our meetings begin at 8:00PM, but many of us meet earlier to socialize over dinner.
Due to the impact of Covid 19, we have been conducting the last few meetings on ZOOM. Currently meetings are scheduled for July 31, August 28, and September 25, 2020. Send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org to receive info. At some point yet to be determined, we will return to our regular face to face meetings held at the Denny's at 9030 N.
