Madeleine L'Engle

Madeleine L'Engle, who was best known for writing the fantasy novel A Winkle in Time, died Thursday September 6, at a nursing home in Litchfield, Connecticut. She was 88.

A Wrinkle in Time won the John Newbery Award as the best children's book of 1963. L'Engle also was honored with the Sequoyah Award, Lewis Carroll Shelf Award, National Religious Book Award, Regina Medal and the World Fantasy Convention Lifetime Achievement Award. She is survived by two daughters, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
