From the back cover: “In this dark and witty fable, Emma Thompson (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Love Actually) portrays a person of unsettling appearance and magical powers who enters the household of the recently widowed Mr. Brown (Colin Firth - Bridget Jones’s Diary, Girl with a Pearl Earring) and attempts to tame his seven exceedingly ill-behaved children.

The children have managed to drive away 17 previous nannies but as Nanny McPhee takes control, they begin to notice that their vile behaviour now leads swiftly and magically to rather startling consequences.”

I missed this when it was in theaters and I am sorry I did. This is a totally delightful romp, sure to please both children and adults alike. Nanny McPhee appears as the Brown children run off nanny number seventeen and from that moment on, life changes for the whole household as she uses understanding, and a little magic, to teach the children.

Special features include: Casting the Children, Village Life, Nanny McPhee Makeover, Deleted Scenes, Gag Reel, How Nanny McPhee came to be! and two audio commentaries.

Nanny McPhee was a delightful evening’s entertainment as we watched both the film and the special features. I understand this is loosely based on a series of children’s stories so maybe we will see Nanny McPhee help another family. Recommended - Stephanie L Bannon
