Book 3 in the Demon Hunting Soccer-Mom series.
From the back cover: “It isn't easy when your daughter's figured out that her mom's a demon hunter-and wants to grow up to be just like her. Or when you suspect your dead husband used the forces of darkness to filch the body of another human. And your living husband isn't the man you married anymore either.
Moreover, Kate's acquired a precious but deadly item that every demon within commuting distance wants. With husband woes playing havoc with her emotions, an ambitious teenage protégée at her heels, and hell to pay, this stay-at-home mom's putting in a lot of overtime.”
The events of Demons Are Forever pick up immediately after the end of California Demon. Kate now has several people that know about her secret life, her daughter Allie, her best friend Laura and David, her daughter’s teacher who just might be Kate’s late husband’s soul in a new body.
Now Allie wants to be a demon hunter, just like her mom. Both Allie and Kate continue to investigate the death of Kate’s late husband, Eric, since it appears to have been murder related to his demon hunting activities instead of a simple mugging. The mysterious martial arts teacher, Cutter, helps with the investigation into Eric’s past and he and Allie turn up information that makes Kate begins to worry that she didn’t know her late husband as well as she thought she did. Even more doubts creep in when the beautiful rogue hunter Nadia shows up in town. Current husband Stuart is still in the dark about Kate’s past, and current, demon hunting activities since he is focused on his political campaign.
And then there are the demons - Andramelech who is trying to make a come back into this world. And his minions that keep attacking Kate, looking for some unknown relic.
Political campaign for the current husband, late husband worries, car-pools, play dates, housework, stay at home mom to a toddler - Kate has a busy life even without the demon hunting tossed in.
This is a fast paced, action-packed book, the plot moves along well and the characters are real. In between battling demons Kate worries about fitting into a new dress to seduce her husband, friend Laura deals with a divorce and their daughters deal with the perils of high school. A truly wonderful series. I wish the next book was coming out sooner than summer of 2008 *sigh*. Highly recommended - Stephanie L Bannon
