Knighthood Of The Dragon
by Cris Bunch
Roc, 408 pp, $15.00
Knighthood of the Dragon is the 2nd Book of the Dragonmaster trilogy.
Hal Kalais is already a hero, and leader of dragon flier squadrons. When land and air assaults push the Roche back, they dig in in the mountains and the war stalls. Then Hal is captured and wounded by the enemy who realize who they have in their possession. After an abortive escape attempt, they take him to a prison no one has ever escaped. Bound in the prison by sorcery, Hal escapes, and returns to his army, [and to his beloved] only to be sent by his king back into battle. This time, the dragon flier has some tricks up his sleeve.
Bunch has created a complex world full of real people, and lots of action. A hard book to put down. Although the novel stands alone and the ending appears complete, I personally hope he finished the third volume before his passing in 2005. I’d like to read it. This one deserves a place in your library as well as being a whopping good read. - Pam Allan
