The Hunted
by Brian Haig
Grand Central Publishing, $7.99, 545 pp
Brian Haig is the author of Man in the Middle among a number of others.

In 1991 the Soviet Union has collapsed. Alex Konevich, thrown out of Moscow university for entrepreneurism, is now worth $300 million, but not everyone is happy. When top executives in his firm get brutally murdered, Alex hires the former KGB director to handle security. Alex and his wife are kidnapped, beaten and stripped of their money and framed for stealing the money. Alex has to prove his innocence in a foreign country with no money, and much harder: save his and Elena's lives. Thank God for Elena.

To call this a thriller is an understatement. Based on a true story, with historical perspective on the major changes brought about by the collapse of the Soviet Union, it has a reality and immediacy often missing in "thrillers'. Well written, I will need to go shopping at my chain Bookstore. Even if you don't normally read thrillers, you may want to rush out and buy this one. ~~ Pam Allan
