ConNotations Book Reviews
DJ Macdonald
by Corie Laraya-Couts
iUniverse, $21.95, 111 pp
This is a debut young adult novel.

DJ is a normal high schooler in Ontario. Unlike many others, he has been having dreams of strange creatures and figures from another world. DJ is given a magic book that will help him when he goes on a family reunion in the Philippines. There he finds a family secret and a mission that matches the dreams.

As he leads a Malipayon warrior mission to rescue a dying prisoner beneath the sea, only time will tell if faith, honor and magic spells will be enough to overcome the evil lurking undersea.

This is good debut of a YA based on another culture. The writing is good, characters likable, and a fun adventure for teenagers. Enjoy. ~~ Pam Allan
